Honors Classes

Since honors classes were offered in 11th grade I took honors classes every year. Below is a brief description of every honors class I have taken. Two of these classes (humanities and physics honors) are featured on this website. The rest will be talked about below.

11th Grade

Math Honors 1st semester

This honors class had 3 requirements. The first was reading a book that had or discussed topics in math and meet once a week to discuss the book. The book group I was apart of was the one reading the Money-ball. A book about sports statistics. The second requirement was to complete an online course and make a video showing what you have learned. I took an online class on statistics. The third requirement was to attend a math event. I attended a speaking of the mathematical artwork of Mc Escher held at the Ruben H Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park

Humanities Honors 1st semester

This honors class was an essay we needed to write about a moment in history. We needed to pick two books that wanted to use as resources. We spent the semester working on annotated bibliographies and essay outlines. I choose to talk about the 1920 prohibition era and wrote an essay about it.

Biology Honors 2nd semester

This honors class was presented to us as three options we could pick. The first were chapters of an SAT biology textbook that the student needed to complete then make an info-graphic of what they learned. The second was attending 3 biology related events and making a presentation. The third option which I choose was making a personal project/presentation about a specific topic you were interested in relating it biology is choice the different ecosystems at multiple beaches in San Diego.

Math Honors 2nd semester

This honors class was an online course we did in segments and then met up once a week to discuss the course we were in. Each meeting someone from the class would need to explain the topic and help lead a discussion.

Humanities Honors 2nd semester

This honors class was additional work we needed to do on top of classwork. As opposed to something new we would have our usual classwork that would need more effort put into. When we wrote our final essay for the class those in honors had to write an additional two pages. Additional work like this is what made up humanities honors.

12th Grade

Calculus Honors 2nd semester

This honors class was weekly meetings where we were given an assignment we needed to completed by the next time we met. We also had additional work we needed to do in class for honors work. Such as extra problems on the packets and on the test.

Physics Honors 2nd semester

This honors class was working on a personal project using one of the tools and then keep an online blog about the process
